Projects

Here are just a few of the events and library programs we’ve supported in the last year.

Ice Cream Social

We had a sweet time at our annual Friends of the South Whatcom Library Ice Cream Social! Neighbors of all ages came together to build their own sundaes, make giant bubbles, and fill the sidewalks with colorful chalk art. The book sale was a hit, too—so many great stories found new homes!

Whatcom Grooves Summer Concert

What a night! For the second year, the South Whatcom Library and Friends of the South Whatcom Library in partnership with the Glenhaven Lakes Club welcomed a lively crowd to the Glenhaven Clubhouse for an unforgettable evening of music, dancing, and community connection. Bilongo brought the rhythm with their high-energy Latin Jazz sound, and the evening closed with the outlaw country sounds of Karlito, Moose & Squirrel. Neighbors of all ages joined in the fun—from prize drawings and lawn games to browsing the pop-up library and book sale.

Big thanks to the Whatcom County Library Foundation, The Jazz Center of Bellingham, the Glenhaven Lakes Club, and everyone who helps make free events like the Whatcom Grooves Summer Jazz Series possible. We’re grateful for your support—and for sharing the joy of libraries and live music with us!

Board member Gena Evola helps a young library patron create a craft during the Summer Reading Kickoff event.

Summer Reading Kickoff

Wow, what a day it was at South Whatcom Library, once again celebrating the kickoff to the Summer Reading program! We gave away more than 130 books, made gigantic bubbles, created works of chalk art, hosted a crafting project, and welcomed the return of the favorite Find The Lobster activity!

Thank you to everyone who came out to see us and a special thank you to our Friends volunteers and South Whatcom Library staff who make the magic possible.

Daffy Day

Daffy Day bloomed with joy at the South Whatcom Library! Neighbors stopped by to sip hot cider, enjoy tasty treats, and take home free daffodil bulbs to brighten their gardens. Kids got creative with fun, flower-themed activities—and prepped the soil for winter so we’ll have lovely daffodils in spring.

A heartfelt thank you to our partners at the Sudden Valley Garden Club for bringing this lovely celebration to life and helping our community grow—one flower at a time!
